So many people in this world have a tenuous grasp on their faith in God or have no faith at all. Of those, many lose what little faith they do claim because they feel He isn’t listening, or doesn’t care and that their prayers are falling on deaf ears. God does indeed hear our prayers and answer them in his due time (when the time is right), but not all answers are “yes” and within the time limits we impose.
You’ve most likely seen “Bruce Almighty” and know how that movie turned out. Sometimes the answer we’ve been praying for comes back as a resounding “no.” Those answers hurt us and our faith can suffer if it isn’t strong enough, because it’s not what we want to hear. Possibly the answer doesn’t come in a healing but in a death. Sometimes the answer isn’t a promotion but a termination. Maybe nothing seems to happen at all when we’re expecting a world of change. His answer may be the exact opposite of what we were hoping for, praying for, and what we think we need at any given time.
When we pray to God, we pray (or should) that His will be done in our lives (on Earth as it is in heaven). We pray for what we think is our greater good and we pray that things will work out the way we want them. But see, that doesn’t mean it’ll work out the way we have in mind, because our ways are not His ways and our thoughts are not His thoughts….and thank God for that!!!
God is not a vending machine. We don’t put in our two cents and get the prize we wish for. He knows all and sees all…and He knows what we need much better than we do. We pray to him in faith that He will act upon His knowledge not ours. If you pray in faith for God to give you an answer, don’t lose that faith because the answer is a long time coming or it’s not the answer you thought you’d hear….have a strong enough faith to accept His answer when and how He gives it to us.
